Terms

Terms of use

ContactFile is a free web tool operated by 9W Digital in New York City. By using it, you agree to these terms. They're short on purpose.

What this is

ContactFile parses pasted contact text in your browser and, if you choose, files the result directly to Google Contacts, or downloads it as a vCard (.vcf) file for import into any other contact application. There is no account, no subscription, and no paywall. The service is provided free of charge by 9W Digital ("we," "us").

Permitted use

You may use ContactFile for any lawful purpose, personal or commercial. There are no volume limits and no restrictions on what kind of contact you file, as long as the contact belongs to someone you are legitimately adding to your own address book and you have a reasonable basis for doing so.

Prohibited use

You agree not to use ContactFile to:

  • access, store, or file contact data that belongs to people whose details you have no legitimate basis to hold;
  • abuse Google's OAuth scopes (for example, to enumerate, scrape, or otherwise retrieve contacts at scale);
  • send spam, harass individuals, or build unauthorized marketing or enrichment datasets;
  • attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or circumvent the client-side architecture in a way that harms other users or infringes on our or third-party rights;
  • violate Google's API Terms of Service.

Third-party services

ContactFile connects your browser directly to Google only when you choose to file a contact to Google Contacts. Your contact data is transmitted straight from your browser to Google and is governed by Google's privacy policy and API terms. We do not act as an intermediary and cannot see, store, or process that data. For any other address book — Microsoft Outlook, Apple Mail, ProtonMail, FastMail, Thunderbird, Nextcloud, and so on — ContactFile generates a standard .vcf file on your own device, which you then import yourself. There is no direct integration with those providers and no data is transmitted to them from ContactFile.

No warranty

ContactFile is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranty of any kind, express or implied — including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. The parser uses heuristics and achieves roughly 85–90% accuracy on well-structured input. Always review parsed fields before filing. Field misassignment, dropped data, or parsing errors are expected edge cases, not defects.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, 9W Digital, its affiliates, and its contributors are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages — including lost data, lost contacts, damage to reputation, or interruption of business — arising from your use of ContactFile. Because ContactFile is provided free of charge, our aggregate liability is capped at zero dollars (US$0.00).

No uptime guarantee

ContactFile is a static site served over a content-delivery network. We make no uptime, performance, or availability commitments, and we may change, pause, or retire the service at any time without notice.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms when the product meaningfully changes. The version in effect is always the one published at contactfile.app/terms. Your continued use of ContactFile after an update means you accept the revised terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute arising from these terms or from use of ContactFile is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in New York County, New York.
